Andrew Derek Biro Joslyn has been playing the violin for close to 22 years. His formative years were spent studying classical music through the Suzuki string method as well as under the tutelage of Kim Zabelle, performing with the Seattle Youth Symphony, and working with Walter Schwede (ex-principal violinist of the Seattle Symphony.) While studying music composition in college, he broke from the regimented routine of classical training and began work on blues, rock, country, and traditional folk such as Scots/Irish, Hungarian Gypsy and Swedish Fiddle music.
He has studied with local violin icons such as: Geoffrey Castle, Paul Anastasio, and Marc O’Connor. Currently he does session work and string arranging at a number of recording studios and works with a variety of Seattle based acts such as: Handful of Luvin’ (voted top 5 local acts of 2008 & 2009 by Evening Magazine; in addition opened for Phish, Brett Dennen, Young Dubliners and the Proclaimers); Eric Tingstad (Grammy Award Winning Guitarist/producer); Eric Fridrich (Jazz/Blues); Macklemore (Seattle Hip Hop); and various others.
